STEP 1: SCHEDULING YOUR SESSION

In order to reserve your session date, a session fee of $50 applies. If we haven’t already, the easiest way to compare calendars is for you to contact me here, or call me with your expected due date. Alternatively, simply use the form at the bottom of this page to reserve your session and I’ll soon be in contact to discuss dates and finalise your booking.

Once your newborn arrives, I ask that you contact me within 48 hours to schedule your actual session date and time.

Before reserving your session, here are a few things to consider:

• Newborns are best captured between days 5-12; however I’ve consistently had success up to 8 weeks. If your newborn is more than 3 months old, please see my “babies” information guide.
• As I often book-out many months in advance, I encourage you to book your session in your second trimester to avoid missing out. Due to the uncertain nature of delivery times, I will only take on a limited number of newborn sessions per month and allocate a session date once baby arrives. Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime however, as I may still have availability.
• The choice is yours whether you would like a studio or outdoor session; however I highly recommend studio sessions for newborns. My large custom-designed studio has gorgeous boho vibes and a relaxed and comfortable natural setting. For every studio session*, outdoor ‘golden-hour’ family photos are also available on the same day at no extra cost (*if desired. “Bump to Baby” value packages excluded. Held in a field on my property – weather permitting).
• Outdoor sessions are held around golden hour (the hour before sunset) to take advantage of the softer, warm light.
• For outdoor sessions, beautiful photographs can be made in any kind of weather, but I understand that there are some downsides to being photographed in the pouring rain or cold. I can and do reschedule sessions for inclement weather, but am also happy if you would like to switch to a studio session if sticking to the schedule is a priority.
• Professional makeup add-on available from The Makeup Haven by Katie ($120).

Your total package price = session fee + your chosen collection.

STEP 2: THE SESSION ITSELF

Once I have your due date and we’ve officially put your session on the books, I’ll send you a prep guide that will walk you through everything from choosing outfits (I also have gorgeous dresses available for you to choose from) to strategies for getting siblings to cooperate. That guide has been created and refined over years of experience, so it typically answers 90% of the questions that come up, but I’m always happy to set up a time to chat if you want additional help.

As stated in Step 1, once your newborn arrives, I ask that you contact me within 48 hours to schedule your actual session date and time. This is also the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions regarding the session.

The day of the session, please block off 3 hours (typically we’re done within 2 hours or so, but I don’t charge by the hour, so if your newborn is unsettled or a sibling is having a meltdown, I like to stay flexible). If a parent has to leave for an important business meeting but the rest of the family is still available, that’s fine… just let me know ahead of time so I can focus on getting that parent in the frame more while they’re still available.

Finally, take a breath and relax… I have worked with over a thousand newborns, so you can trust you’re in good hands! After the family portion of the session, some of my mums even choose to take a well deserved nap during the session as I focus on capturing the newborn. If it would ease tensions for Dad to crack open a beer on arrival – well then I say go for it!

STEP 3: THE FUN PART!

Within just a couple of weeks of your session, you’ll receive an email from me letting you know that your photos are ready. Once you’ve had a chance to see them and marvel for a bit, you’ll let me know which collection you want to purchase. After that, you’ll have a full month to select the specific digital files and print items you want to use to fill that collection… zero pressure! If you’re like me and like to see and feel things like album covers and paper types in person, I have samples of all the physical products I offer at my studio. Geeking out over paper types and wall galleries is honestly one of my favourite parts of the job!

What you’re going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you’re planning for a photo session, but it’s all too often the aspect that’s overlooked… all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere. You’ll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album, so I include a substantial print credit with every collection.
